with their Guest of Honor, Ursula Vernon, at Arisia ’17.<span></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b>The Halcyon Fairy
Book</b> collects Vernon’s wry and insightful commentary on several traditional
fairy tales, along with her first collection of fairy-tale inspired original
work, <i>Toad Words</i>, previously only
available as a self-published eBook. Eleven of these annotated fairy tales
(including, “The Crystal Casket”, a “Snow White” story exploring why the Prince
was so struck by an apparent corpse, and “The Wonderful Sheep” which starts as <i>King Lear</i> and goes off on a tangent),
are lightly edited from their original appearances on her blog, and one, “The
King of Love,” is original to this limited-edition hardcover. <span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">T. Kingfisher is the pen name of Ursula Vernon, a noted author
of children’s books, (including the popular multi-volume series <i>Dragonbreath,</i> and <i>Harriet the Hamster Princess</i>), which Ursula Vernon uses when
writing for an adult audience. Her long-running comic <i>Digger</i> won the Hugo Award for Graphic Fiction in 2012 and the
Mythopoeic Fantasy Award for Adult Literature in 2013. She also won the Nebula
Award for best short story and the WSFA Small Press Award for “Jackalope Wives”
in 2015.<span></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Under the T. Kingfisher name, she has published a series of
fairy-tale retellings, including <i>The
Seventh Bride</i>, <i>The Raven and the
Reindeer</i>, and <i>Bryony and Roses</i>.<span></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Ursula Vernon, who also did the illustration for the color
dust jacket, has won a number of Webcomic Choice Awards.<span></span></p>
