Hello Everyone,

I hope you're excited to discuss this book. I really liked it, and have
many thoughts I'd like to share.

*I'm out of sorts, however, and won't make it to the clubhouse this
evening. :(*

I took a nasty fall after slipping on deceptive ice this morning! I went
down some stairs, but after everything settled, I thought I was fine. Well,
I'm not. Currently I'm on some painkillers but I need to take it easy. I
can't sit for long periods of time. (This is a fancy way of telling you all
that yes, I indeed did bust my ass.)

So since I don't want to reschedule, these are my thoughts on the book for
you to contemplate/discuss/dismiss outright:

- I want to read on, but was sort of annoyed that the book ended right were
it did.

-I was delighted with the magic system (I consider this book fantasy),
especially the mastery of the nodes!

-"Shard-fire" was very inventive, I thought, and very terrifying.

-I didn't care for Araskar as much as Jaqi, and was annoyed when the POV
switched to him. He seemed useful at the end but I still didn't care for
him. He's just a sack of meat grunt in over his head and he's there to do
the dirty work.

- THE GIANT BUG SHIPS WERE SO COOL AAAAAH!

- I wanted more eldritch horrors from the Dark Zone! Maybe from the next
books?

- I love how gritty Jaqi is, and how she manages to be kind in spite of it.
I loved her relationship with the kids. I was also intrigued by the
theological discussions the characters had; it was fresh and not at all
derogatory.

-I am utterly fascinated by Jorian theology

I have so many thoughts! I wish I could be there. Hope you all have a
fruitful talk.

*I will see you all Wednesday evening (14th) for our discussion of a
Wrinkle in Time*...I've been looking forward to it for a few months.
