[nesfa-reading-group] January 2018 book choices

I'd be interested in reading The Incrementalists, as I've heard a lot of chatter about it. I'd also be up for From Here To Timbuku by Milton Davis, as it sounds like fun from the reviews I've read, although there were numerous notes on the need for a re-edited version, due to grammar & other errors.

 Some ideas:
   - 2312 - Kim Stanley Robinson

This is a Nebula Award winner and it is big and complex. The reviews are mostly positive, though the positive reviews are of the "Masterpiece" or "magnificient achievement" variety and the negative reviews are of the "too difficult to finish" and "bewildering" variety.

   - This Is Not a Game - Walter Jon Williams

I have liked everything I've ever read (quite a bit) by Williams. This one seems to be getting good reviews as a novel, though it is described as like a Michael Crichton techno-thriller with a dash of cyberpunk.

   - The Incrementalists - Steven Brust & Skyler White

John Scalzi says he loves this.  There's a sequel out already.

   - Clockwork Rocket - Greg Egan

Really hard SF. First of a trilogy

   - From Here to Timbuktu - Milton J. Davis

One of our GOHs from last year. Genre: Steamfunk, something I hadn't heard of before.

   - Blue Remembered Earth - Alastair Reynolds

I really like Reynolds' ideas and writing. This is the first of a sort-of trilogy.(That is, they follow on, but are each stand-alone.) The reviews I read are all positive.

I have another bunch of books on my "read next" list, but I looked up the reviews on all of them and the above were deemed the best of the lot.

Hi everyone,
it's that time again, to pick another book to read for January. So, let's see some proposals, and we'll vote on them at the next Reading Group meeting on October 6th. See you soon!
Best wishes,
Michael S.
