[nesfa-reading-group] Book choices for October 2017

For the record, anyone may nominate any science fiction, fantasy or horror novel in English for this group to read, regardless of whether I've put out a list of previous suggestions. I am not actually voting for anything in this case, just making suggestions. In my role as moderator, it is my responsibility to see that a book that group members want to read is chosen for each month's meeting. In order to help facilitate that process, please do NOT make joke suggestions for books in the future, to avoid potential unpleasantness.

If anyone would like to add a specific novel to this month's list, please feel free to do so. If enough people decide to change their vote, or nominate different novels, I would welcome your participation. This group is for all of us; I'm just trying to help facilitate, that's all.

Best regards,
Mike S.

I've read Jack of Shadows at least three times. It is also short, so it is no hardship to read it again and discuss it.
But I object to the process.

The "final" list presented by Sharrow the Unsubtle contains an unfunny repetition of an obvious joke, a book that it is not real fiction (or what we think of as part of the SF/Fantasy genre) , and, as the highlighted major feature, his personal choice (as stated in an earlier email).
This is not the way such choices should be made.
For further choices, I suggest we spend a few minutes every other session listing, describing and voting on choices to read for future sessions.

Howdy folks,
I've reviewed all of the suggestions for October and narrowed it down to the following:
1)Charles Shultz cartoons (involving the Great Pumpkin, and such)2)Jack of Shadows by Roger Zelazny, and For Want Of A Nail,by Mary Robinette Kowal (Boskone 55 GOH).
3) Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman.
I've included the MR Kowal short story to give people an opportunity to read & discuss her Hugo winning work together, in advance of the convention.

To give people time to make up one's mind, all votes will be tallied by Monday am July 10th, and scheduled directly thereafter.

I honestly can't wait, as I'm looking forward to all of these!
Happy 4th o' July all,
Mike S.
